
Why we basically torture our bathroom heaters before they reach you
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. You’ve got thick steam, crazy humidity, and temperature swings that would make a thermometer dizzy. If you’re putting an infrared heater in the ceiling, it’s basically living in a sauna. If the seals aren’t perfect, the thing is going to die. Fast. We don’t like guessing when it comes to how long a product lasts. That’s why we use “damp-heat aging.” It sounds fancy, but it’s really just a way to simulate years of bathroom wear and tear in a few weeks. The battle against moisture Water and high-voltage electricity? Not a great mix. When steam sneaks past the seal between the quartz tube and the electrical terminals, it creates a path for electricity to go where it shouldn’t. That leads to arcing or, in the worst case, a total short circuit. To stop this, we throw our units into humidity chambers. We crank the humidity up to 95% and keep the heat between 40°C and 60°C while flipping the power on and off. We’re basically trying to break the thing. If there’s a weak spot in the glue or the insulation, we want it to fail on our floor, not in your ceiling. The shock factor Then there’s the heat. Quartz tubes expand and contract every time you flip the switch. Imagine a lamp going from freezing cold to hundreds of degrees in a matter of seconds, all while covered in a layer of condensation. That “thermal shock” can cause tiny micro-cracks. Our aging process makes sure the bond between the tube and the metal stays tight. Because if that seal leaks, the halogen gas escapes, the filament burns out, and you’re left with a very expensive piece of useless glass. Finding the sweet spot Here’s the tricky part: you can’t just seal everything airtight. If we make the seals too tight to keep the moisture out, we end up trapping heat around the pins. If we overdo it, we risk melting the wiring. It’s a balancing act. We use specific high-temp silicones and a housing design that lets the unit breathe. As long as your bathroom ventilation is decent so heat doesn’t just pool in the ceiling, you get a heater that handles a steamy shower without breaking a sweat.
