
Making Bathroom Heaters That Won’t Blind You
When we set out to build these infrared bathroom heaters, we were focusing on one big problem: how do you get a room warm enough to feel cozy without blasting people—especially babies—with harsh, blinding light? Most standard IR lamps are just too much. They’ve got that aggressive glare and a hit of blue light that feels like a spotlight in your eyes. We decided to fix that by changing how the light actually works. The secret is in the filter. We use a special quartz envelope with a specific coating. Think of it like a pair of high-tech sunglasses for the lamp. It blocks the UV rays and the bright visible light, but lets the long-wave infrared heat slide right through. Instead of a blinding white flash, you get a soft, dim glow. Your eyes can actually relax while your skin gets warm. It’s a much kinder way to heat a room. Warmth without the glare. Inside, there’s a tungsten filament tucked into high-purity quartz. We’ve tuned these to keep a steady surface temperature so the heat hits you directly. Here’s the interesting part: because we’ve filtered out the bright light, the lamp doesn’t look like it’s burning hot. It doesn’t have that intense, searing look of a halogen bulb, but you still get all the heat. You get the warmth, but none of the luminosity. Getting it installed. These are pretty easy to deal with. They’re basically drop-in replacements for standard R7s sockets, so you can just wire them into your existing bathroom circuits. One thing to keep in mind, though. Since we’re blocking the light to protect your eyes, these aren’t going to light up your room. You can’t use them as your main light source. If you need to see what you’re doing while shaving or doing makeup, you’ll still want some LED fixtures on the side. It’s a small trade-off for a much more comfortable experience.
